I don’t usually talk to those who aren’t here as if they were, but I am doing it today. I hate you left without saying, “Goodbye”. I asked your oldest brother, Joseph about you many times but he’d share more with his younger daughter and my mom, but never me. I wanted you to know that I was praying for you and even wanted to see you when I learned you were in hospice care. I am so sorry I never saw you, but know that I tried and I didn’t stop praying.
I enjoyed when you were off for a bit and you’d come to grandpa’s where I was. I’d talk and you’d answer. Then one day you talked! That surprised me when WE were having a conversation! You told me that you were not comfortable talking to people in person. I never considered it was only you in your rig for years.
But before you left, I finally understood you. Although reserved, you were an introvert, who opted to keep thoughts, feelings, and activities to yourself. You weren’t unhappy; you’d simply process the world internally, valued your privacy, and solitude is how you recharged. I wish I could tell you today…Uncle Clayton, I know you. You’re no longer here but you were loved, prayed for and you are missed. It was a pleasure being your oldest niece and in heaven, I’ll see you again.
